The 13th annual Special Olympics New York Leadership Council Summer Social will be held Wednesday, August 7th at Marquee New York in New York City. Over 500 New Yorkers will attend in the hopes of raising awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities, as well as funding to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics New York. This premier event kicks off at 8:00pm and attendees will enjoy a night of music and dancing with DJ Stefanie Nava, a three-hour opened, sponsored bar (**every guest must be 21+ years old), a digital silent auction and an opportunity to sponsor an athlete. Immediately following the event, there will be an after party hosted at PH-D, free to those who purchase tickets for the Summer Social.

Special Olympics New York provides inclusive opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to compete in Olympic-style, coached sports. To stay active for life. To achieve goals at local and international contests. And to taste victory and overcome defeat.

WHO WE ARE

Competitive sports breed common ground. Athletes, coaches and the people who support them come together for the love of a sport or the thrill of a game. Not everyone wins.

Through Special Olympics New York, though, everyone is included. Athletes with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to challenge themselves in fair and even competition. Win or lose, they develop their own character, make friends and find unknown wells of determination within themselves.

If you're a fan of unity, acceptance, empowerment, dignity, pride and fun, you're a fan of
Special Olympics New York.
You're one of us.

OUR MISSION

To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Special Olympics New York has 67,018 athletes training and competing year-round in 23 Olympics-style sports. Our athletes and their families or caregivers are NEVER CHARGED to participate! It costs $400 to support training and competition
for one athlete for one sports season.

Leadership Council

The Leadership Council promotes awareness and raises funds in an effort to support Special Olympics New York. Individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to work towards one common goal: to promote Special Olympics New York's mission of empowering children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through year-round Olympic-style athletic training and competition.

Our purpose is to allow Special Olympics New York athletes to showcase their talents and abilities, while improving self-esteem, developing social interactions and enhancing leadership skills on and off the playing field. The Leadership Council empowers Special Olympics New York athletes and their greater communities through unity and inclusion. Embodying the competitive spirit of NYC, the Leadership Council helps bring those with intellectual disabilities onto the same playing field as everyone else.

We believe?
